1) SAMHSA grant: Primary and Behavioral Health Care Integration
Currently the Center for Mental Health [CMH] is the recipient of a SAMHSA grant focused on integrated care, called the Integrated Center for Mental Health [ICMH]. Patients receive medical care, substance abuse counseling, smoking cessation counseling in the form of individual and group therapy.
Current CMH patients present with comorbid chronic medical conditions and substance use disorders. They are able to receive all their medical, substance use and psychiatric care on the same day and receive follow up care. The goal is for patients to emerge healthier-both from a medical and psychiatric standpoint-by healthy food and lifestyle choices.
2) GENOMIC COHORT STUDY: Schizophrenia and Bipolar Disorder
CMH also is involved in the Genomic Cohort Study led by Dolores Malaspina, MD, MS, MSPH of the NYU Langone Medical Center. The study focuses on patients with schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder and bipolar disorder. The study has been granted IRB approval and is in the process of being launched.
